Today was the first Sunday morning service of Reading City Outreach Church and it was called “Supernatural Sunday.” The new project was growing inside its old building nestled in between townhouses on busy Cotton Street. We rose early to have breakfast in the church basement and set up for the service. VFCC students divided and conquered throughout the building, some greeting, others preparing children’s church, some playing instruments and sound checking for worship. Prayer was an extreme focus for the next event. The basement of the church, which still smelled like blueberry pancakes, was transformed into a children’s church while the building filled with people.
Rain drizzled on people’s heads and kids as families made their way up the sidewalks. A very diverse crowd was developing. Pastor Angelo’s son Dan opened up in a worship set and we already were becoming aware that the focus of this church is Jesus Christ. The liturgy continued as we greeted one another and listened to Pastor Angelo’s sermon.
His sermon focused on the phrase “a time has now come” as he laid out the vision for the future of City Outreach Church of Reading. We are going to eventually end up in Southern Middle School, but first a time of preparation was needed—equipping services-a supernatural Sunday.
After the service we spend the afternoon in more preparation for the evening service, where the Spirit of the Lord was again the focus on the congregation. The service flowed smoothly and led to a time of worship and prayer. The Sunday was truly Supernatural.
